FAQs

Where do I get a USA Wrestling Card?
  1. You will need to go to: https://www.usawmembership.com/ and create a login
  2. Once your login is created, you will need to create a profile for your wrestler
  3. When creating your wrestler’s “Athlete” profile, you will select the type of membership. This can be either the “Limited Folkstyle” or the “Full Athlete” memberships. Limited Folkstyle will allow your wrestler to wrestle all USAW folkstyle events, the Full Athlete membership will allow for all folkstyle, freestyle and greco wrestling events.
What equipment does my child need to wrestle?

We practice in shorts, t-shirts and wrestling shoes. We rent singlets for the season ($25 deposit) and will also offer an opportunity to purchase a singlet as part of a group order at the beginning of the season. Most of the youth tournaments will require headgear, which can be purchased online at amazon, academy sports, wrestlingmart.com and many other places. The most common headgear is Cliff Keen original, there are several brands that offer that style and many other styles. Our best advice is to get something comfortable for your wrestler.

Yes, they can wear headgear at practice.

If needed, we have a selection of used wrestling shoes that can be had and encourage folks to continue to donate shoes their kids outgrow. This is especially helpful for the younger kids. I do not believe I have ever seen a worn out pair of size 5 and under wrestling shoes.

Water bottles should be brought to practice, but left outside of the room.

What should they wear to practice?

They should NOT wear their wrestling shoes TO practice. Wrestling shoes should be brought and put on once they are in the room and removed prior to leaving practice. We do not wear our wrestling shoes outside, we want to keep our surfaces as clean and germ free as possible. That said, they should wear comfortable clothes (shorts, t-shirts). NO JEWELRY, NO ZIPPERS, NO BUTTONS.

FINGERNAILS need to be trimmed close prior to practice.

How long is the season?

Depending on the age, practice will start at the beginning of November/December and will continue until the first couple of weeks in March. Depending on the tournament schedule (which changes during the season) we will begin communicating end of season plans during the week of our final hosted tournaments (End of Days and No Boys Allowed).

Should my wrestler wrestle in tournaments?

Short answer: Yes

The more opportunities they have to exercise what they are practicing the better. New wrestlers should take full advantage of rookie tournaments and scrimmages. If you have a question about a specific tournament and your wrestler’s participation please ask their coach. At the end of the day, it is up to you and your wrestler how often or if they wrestle in competition. Learning and growing at practice and scrimmages is perfectly ok. TWA will publish a tournament list for the season that will highlight the tournaments where we plan to have coaches available.

Where do we register for tournaments

Trackwrestling.com

Most all of the local tournaments are hosted on trackwrestling.com. You will need to create an account and add your wrestler(s) to your account.

How does Trojan Wrestling support Bandys and Mill Creek?

TWA makes donations to both programs throughout the year and at the conclusion of the season. We have helped purchase mats at both the high school and middle school in the last few years, singlets, warmups, mat tape, scales, weight equipment, specialty coaches, clinicians and camps. We sponsor the teams traveling for dual team competitions in FL, WV, SC, VA, TN and NC.

We also maintain a fantastic relationship with both programs and promote their events and matches. We want our wrestlers in the stands pulling for the kids they see putting in the work and representing their school. #Community #RowTheBoat
